As the tech world rushes
forward, it's scrapping old, less sexy computers that kids could still get a lot of use
out of. But nerd intervention is crucial. Ancient software for these ancient computers is pretty much only available nowadays on the Internet, and it takes keen geek skills to download and unzip and set into menu systems the programs that kids need. Most nerds don't realize how unique and valuable their skills are, but I'm here to tell you that computers donated to kid programs are severely under-used because the people in charge of kid programs know about kids, not computers. C: / huh? Adventures in Retro-Tech - Pre-Geeking Systems This site is designed to make it easier for you to take your supermodel computer and use it to Pre-Geek any old computers that come your way, before giving them away. Besides, it's an interesting challenge to see what you can make old technology do. Schools, preschools, summer youth programs, Blue Santa, family charities, churches -- think of the good you could do; think of the pretty social workers and teachers you could impress. Stastistics suggest that corporations give away (and sometimes just throw away) millions of computers annually -- let's make it a goal to get each of those systems into the hands of a kid.
